Design Centre-Tasmania
Exhibition Policy
Background
The Design Centre-Tasmania is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the support of Tasmanian design.
In addition to its permanent museum collection, the world-renowned Tasmanian Wood Design Collection, the Design Centre runs a program of temporary exhibitions in its premises in City Park. These exhibitions profile many types of design.
Entry to the Exhibitions Program
Entry to the Exhibitions Program of the Design Centre is highly competitive. Exhibitions will be considered for selection into the Design Centre Exhibition Program by the Curator in the first instance. The Exhibition Program is presented to the full Board of the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection once a year, usually in November, for ratification.
Selection of exhibitions for the Exhibitions Program is made after an assessment of each project by the Curator, measured against the features and benefits described below.
Selection Criteria
Exhibitions with the following features will be highly considered for selection:
® Exhibitions resulting from a partnership with an arts organisation, museum or teaching institution
® Exhibitions which present the work of more than one practitioner
® Exhibitions displaying a reasoned connection to the permanent collection (the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection)
® Exhibitions of wood design, or where the majority of work is three-dimensional
® Touring exhibitions of significance which have not previously been shown in Northern Tasmania
All exhibitions must offer at least one of the following benefits:
- Support for Tasmanian designers through profile-raising and the creation of new audiences
- Education of the community through the presentation of high quality and meaningful work
- Promotion of the Design Centre and Tasmanian Wood Design Collection through association with innovative, contemporary practice.
