Volunteer Policy and Procedural Guide
Overview
The Volunteer Policy states the terms and conditions under which voluntary workers can be employed by the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection Limited.
Aim
The policy supports the volunteers of the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection, who with the Board, Management and paid staff will assist in working towards our strategic Vision and Mission.
Key Aspects
The Tasmanian Wood Design Collection offers volunteers a designated volunteer position.
Volunteer duties are undertaken of the volunteer’s own free will, without coercion, and without financial reward.
Recruitment
The Tasmanian Wood Design Collection is committed to finding the right person to fill a position, as it becomes available. Evaluating each position, developing a position description and sourcing and interviewing suitable candidates will achieve this.
Suitable candidates may be sourced from:
- Volunteering Tasmania
- Applicants approaching the Tasmanian Wood Design Collection
- Referrals by Directors, staff and management
- Other avenues as appropriate
Selection Procedure
Candidates will be interviewed to assess suitability to the position being offered. Interview forms will be completed (including Health Questionnaire if appropriate).
Candidates must consent to a police check in order to be considered for a position.
All information gathered will be assessed by the staff member responsible for recruitment. In the event of a positive evaluation, a position will offered to the candidate who is then required to complete a registration form.
Orientation & Training
New volunteers are provided with a Design Centre Volunteer Policy and Procedures Manual and are given a one-on-one orientation of the building and the Collection by the Volunteer Coordinator.
The supervisor responsible for the position will then provide the Volunteer with sufficient training and resources to carry out their duties.
From time to time Volunteers will be offered training/information sessions to update skills and knowledge relating to the position undertaken.
Access to HR Policies
Volunteers will be provided with copies of the Design Centre’s key HR policies and procedures:
- Staff Code of Behaviour
- Duty of Care / Accident and Injury Procedure
- Workplace Harassment
- Grievance Procedures
Termination of Employment
Termination may occur following the giving of appropriate verbal and written warnings under the following circumstances.
- Failure to comply with Design Centre policies and procedures as specified in the written documentation provided to the volunteer
- Engaging in any criminal act
Termination may also occur as a result of restructure.
In this instance, every effort will be made to find a suitable alternative placement.
Insurance
All volunteers between the ages of 15 and 65 will be covered by accident insurance (NOT workers compensation)
Rewards and Activities
All Volunteers completing 3 months duty will be given honorary Friends of Design status, receiving all benefits afforded our Friends.
Regular meetings will be held to keep volunteers informed.
Volunteers will receive invitations to attend all Exhibition openings.
